104 John Vlach on Video Marketing for Beginners

If you prefer the video, which might be a good idea, considering the topic. 😉

Video is all the rage these days, but what do you need to get started with video marketing? What makes video marketing effective? What equipment do you need?

In short, how can you make video marketing work for you as an independent consultant, rather than a YouTube influencer?

That’s where John “the Video Guy” Vlach comes in, with some simple tips to make your video marketing efforts practical, and effective.

  • Don’t guess on content– answer common questions that your ideal prospects tend to ask.
  • Make sure your audio is good and your video is decent– a simple lavalier microphone and your phone camera, or even a webcam should be fine to start. Just make sure you have decent lighting.
  • Content quality is more important than production quality.
  • The optimal length for videos depends on what time you need to convey information. Try to make videos as short as possible, but no shorter. (Use clips from longer videos as teasers.)
  • You can use tools like CapCut and Riverside to automate a lot of the editing process with AI. You can also use sites like Freepik.com for royalty-free imagery
  • Distribute videos on YouTube, and on other relevant platforms for you audience, including your website, lead magnets, and email newsletter.

Want a way to make sales and marketing fun, without being “salesy”? Try Mimiran, the CRM for elite solo consultants who love serving clients but who hate “selling”.

Unlike CRMs built for the VP of sales to keep track of a sales team, where contacts are just statistics, Mimiran is built for relationships, networking, and referrals.

(In Mimiran, every contact has an “Ideal Client Profile” and “Ideal Partner Profile”, so it’s easier to make connections for others. You can also track your referrals, and what business resulted. Make follow-up a breeze, and more, with Mimiran’s emphasis on the Relationship part of CRM.)
